Bio
Ryan Flack serves as Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Marshalltown Community College, a role he has held since 2019 following three seasons as an assistant coach from 2016 to 2019. He also served as MCC’s Director of Athletics from 2022 to 2025.
During his head coaching tenure, Flack has helped 20 players move on to four-year programs and produced 22 ICCAC All-Conference selections, including five First Team honorees. Seven of his former players are currently playing professionally overseas.
As an assistant coach, Flack helped advance 12 student-athletes to the next level and coached two NJCAA All-Americans: Mohamed Thiam (Third Team, 2017–18) and Kelton Edwards (Honorable Mention, 2018–19). Several players from that stretch are now playing professionally around the world.
Before returning to MCC, Flack was an assistant coach at John Wood (IL) Community College and began his coaching career after playing at MCC in 2007–08. He went on to serve as a student manager at Iowa State University under Fred Hoiberg and later coached at Urbandale High School (IA) under Hall of Fame Coach Brad Bjorkgren, contributing to a state tournament appearance in 2013.
Flack was a graduate assistant at South Dakota State University from 2013 to 2015 under Head Coach Scott Nagy. During his time with the Jackrabbits, SDSU made two postseason appearances, including a run to the second round of the 2015 NIT—the program’s first NCAA Division I postseason victory. He also assisted in the development of seven all-conference players and two academic All-Americans.
A native of Nevada, Iowa, Flack holds a master’s degree in counseling and human development from South Dakota State University and a bachelor’s degree in social science from Upper Iowa University. He resides in Marshalltown, with his family.
