Tigers to host Northeast in first round of Region XI Tournament
The Marshalltown Community College men’s basketball team will host the opening round of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Region XI Tournament as the No. 4 seed Tigers take on the No. 5 seed Northeast Community College Hawks at 7:00 PM on Monday night at the Student Activity Center.

The Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team will host the opening round of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Region XI Tournament as the No. 4 seed Tigers take on the No. 5 seed Northeast Community College Hawks at 7:00 PM on Monday night at the Student Activity Center.
MCC (16-13, 2-6) earned the fourth seed in the tournament after beating the Hawks twice in the regular season. The Tigers defeated Northeast on the road 101-100 in a double overtime thriller on Jan. 18. In the teams' only meeting in Marshalltown, The Tigers finished off the Hawks in regulation, 100-82 on Feb. 8.
In the two regular season meetings, Mike Rodriguez (Boston, MA/Redemption Christian Academy) averaged 24.5 points and 8.5 assists per game. Troidell Carter (Lilburn, GA/Meadowcreek), who averaged 20 points over the two games, enters the tournament averaging 26 points and 11.4 rebounds over his last five games. Both players went for career-highs of 33 points each in the regular season finale at Indian Hills, a 104-93 loss.
The Hawks (14-16, 0-8) are led by Khapri Alston and Buay Tuach, who averaged 15.9 and 12.8 points per game, respectively, during the regular season.
Indian Hills Community College earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament after posting a 7-1 record in conference play and holds the tiebreaker over No. 2 seed Southeastern Community College who also finished the regular season 7-1. Iowa Western Community College enters as the No. 3 seed. The winner of MCC and Northeast will advance to play at Indian Hills at 7:00 PM on Wednesday night.
