Tigers split on day one of DMACC Invitational
Boone, IA—Competing on day one of the Des Moines Area Community College Invitational, the Marshalltown Community College women’s volleyball team split a pair of games, falling 3-0 to No. 2 nationally ranked Parkland College and defeated MCC-Longview 3-1.

Boone, IA—Competing on day one of the Des Moines Area Community College Invitational, the Marshalltown Community College women's volleyball team split a pair of games, falling 3-0 to No. 2 nationally ranked Parkland College and defeated MCC-Longview 3-1. The Tigers improve to 17-14 on the year.
Parkland entered the match sporting a 33-2 record. The Tigers dropped all three sets, 25-16, 25-13, 25-20. The Cobras have swept their last five opponents in straight sets. Alyssa Whitmore (Legrand, IA/East Marshall) led the Tigers defensively, totaling a team-high 14 assists. Katelyn Yauslin (Cedar Rapids, IA/Alburnett) and Miranda Smith (Albion, IA/Marshalltown) both recorded eight kills as the Tigers dropped their opening match.
MCC picked up its seventh win in its last nine matches in the nightcap as the Tigers defeated MCC-Longview 25-13, 18-25, 25-23, 25-12. Smith and Yauslin paced the Tigers offensively once again, tallying 13 and 12 kills, respectively. The two lead the team in kills this year with Smith posting a team-high 254 and Yauslin with 241. The two rank fifth and sixth in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). Smith also tied her career-high with five solo blocks.
Whitmore was the lone Tiger in double-figures in the digs column, posting a team-high 18. The sophomore has posted double-digit dig totals in the last nine matches.
Sam Hinrichs (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny) led the Tigers against Longview with 38 assists in the match.
The Tigers return to action for day two of the DMACC Invite with a pair of games against South Suburban College, a team that received votes in this week's NJCAA Division II Poll, at 8:00 am and against Highland Community College at 2:00 PM.
