The series began Saturday with a 10-2 blowout fueled by extra-base hits. Kiara Brannon, Shalei Morn, Meadow Shackelford, and Savanah Gutierrez all connected for doubles, while Morn added a triple and Shackelford notched a home run. Morn and Shackelford led the team with 3 RBIs each, with Brannon and Morgan Williams also driving in runs. The second game was a much tighter 4-3 win where small ball made the difference. Brannon stayed hot with two doubles, while Morn and Tyla Pita-Kani executed key sacrifice bunts to move runners. Morn finished with two RBIs and Shackelford added one to help MCC edge out the win.
Sunday's action saw the Tigers' offense reach even higher gear in two high-scoring thrillers. In the first game of the day, MCC outlasted DCTC in an 8-inning marathon, eventually walking away with a 13-12 victory. The weekend finale was a showcase of pure power, as the Tigers racked up runs in a 19-9 victory that ended in just six innings. The back-to-back wins ensured the weekend sweep and showcased the team's ability to thrive in high-pressure, high-scoring situations.
MCC returns home this Thursday, April 23, to host Northeast Iowa in a doubleheader starting at 2:00 pm. Before the games begin, the college is inviting the community to the field at 1:00 pm to celebrate recent facility improvements. Fans can enjoy a free cookout, t-shirts, and free admission to the games while supplies last. It is a great opportunity to celebrate the program's progress and cheer on the Tigers as they look to keep their momentum rolling at home.
