On the court, Shenell Stewart delivered a powerhouse performance that anchored the Tigers' offense. Stewart led all scorers for the game with an impressive 24 points and dominated the glass with 12 rebounds to secure a double-double. While Olivia Heartwell was the only other Tiger to reach double figures with 11 points, the victory was undeniably a collective effort, with the entire roster contributing to the defensive pressure and ball movement required to upend the Reivers.
The ultimate difference-maker in the three-point victory came down to execution at the charity stripe. MCC took full advantage of their opportunities, shooting an efficient 71.9% by converting 23 of 32 free throws. Iowa Western struggled to find their rhythm from the line, shooting just 50% on 6-of-12 attempts.
Head Coach Dylan Longley made history in just his third season at the helm of the MCC program. With this victory, Longley becomes the only head coach in the college's history to defeat Iowa Western twice.
The Tigers will look to carry this momentum forward as they return to their home court this weekend. MCC is set to welcome Ellsworth Community College on Saturday, Jan. 31. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
